FAQ
Common questions
What is FODMAP and why does it matter for IBS?

FODMAPs are fermentable carbohydrates found in many everyday foods. For some people with IBS, consuming FODMAPs in larger amounts can contribute to symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, and changes in bowel habits. The Low FODMAP diet, developed by Monash University, is the most evidence-backed dietary approach for managing IBS symptoms.
How does the food scanner work?

Point your camera at any barcode — Stummy looks up the product and breaks down every ingredient by its FODMAP type (Fructose, Lactose, Fructans, GOS, Sorbitol, Mannitol). You see exactly what's safe, what's risky, and why.
Will Stummy work for IBS-C as well as IBS-D?

Yes. The Low FODMAP approach can be used to help manage symptoms in people with IBS, including IBS-C, IBS-D, and mixed-type IBS. If you have SIBO or another gastrointestinal condition, talk with a qualified healthcare professional about whether a Low FODMAP approach is appropriate for you.
Is Stummy available on Android?

Stummy is currently available on iOS (iPhone and iPad, iOS 16+). Android is on our roadmap.
Do I need to create an account to use Stummy?

You can use the FODMAP Checker and Gut Health Quiz on this website without any account. The full app — scanner, meal plans, symptom tracking — is available after downloading from the App Store.
Is Stummy a replacement for a dietitian?

No — Stummy is an educational and tracking tool, not medical advice. We always recommend working with a registered dietitian or gastroenterologist alongside using the app, especially during the Low FODMAP elimination phase.
